Our Inter Activ team has recently awarded the prestigious Enable Ability ‘Employer of Choice’ Award to two outstanding local companies.
As part of our Inter Activ Social Enterprise- which supports adults aged 17+ with mild to moderate disabilities in gaining work experience and qualifications- we work closely with businesses to create meaningful employment opportunities.
Inter Activ is one of the few employment initiatives in Portsmouth and South-East Hampshire specifically designed for people with disabilities. Launched in 2019 following extensive research, the programme was developed to address the visible and hidden barriers many of our service users face when seeking employment.
Encouraging businesses to recognise the value and potential of people with disabilities remains an ongoing challenge. However, thanks to the dedication of our team, we have built strong partnerships with forward-thinking employers who are making a real difference.
To celebrate this commitment, we recently presented the ‘Employer of Choice’ Award to two companies that have gone above and beyond- demonstrating flexibility, inclusivity, and unwavering support as our participants transition into the workplace.
•Smyths Toys: A supportive and reliable employer, Smyths Toys has provided paid work opportunities while making necessary adjustments to ensure employees can thrive in their roles.
•Traco UK: A company that truly stands out, Traco UK has offered participants the chance to explore different roles and gain experience across multiple disciplines, all while providing paid employment. Our Into Work Skills Coach, Peter Hooker, praised them, saying:
“They are an employer that is so much more than the average employer.”
We are incredibly grateful to these businesses for their ongoing commitment to inclusive employment, and we hope their leadership inspires others to follow suit.
